3 comedy heavyweights team up for a new sitcom at Bounce

A new sitcom bringing together three of the funniest women on TV is coming to the Bounce network. Emmy nominee Yvette Nicole Brown will be joined by Tisha Campbell and Kym Whitley in the new comedy “Act Your Age,” which is set to debut in spring 2023.

The 30-minute, multi-camera series has an order of 16 episodes and has already begun production in Los Angeles, according to a statement released by Bounce. Brown also confirmed the news in a Nov. 17 tweet that she was eager to make public.

“Here’s some news I can finally share!” she wrote on the post, which linked to Variety’s story about the new series.

“Act Your Age” will tell the story of three 50-something women who live in the Washington, D.C., area, are each facing a personal crossroads and try to stick together while navigating them.

Brown portrays Angela, a widow and the former first lady of Norfolk, Virginia, who is looking to redefine her life. Campbell plays Keisha, known as “the wild card” of the group. Finally, Whitley takes on the role of Bernadette, a “successful, no-nonsense real estate developer.”

Show creator, executive producer and showrunner Alyson Fouse, who most recently has served as executive producer on Prime Video’s “A League of Their Own” and “Big Shots” on Disney+, also shared a short teaser trailer of the starring trio in the upcoming show on social media.

“You’ve never seen these funny ladies quite like this,” Fouse wrote in her tweet. “This show is full of laughs and heart. Especially laughs. You’re going to love it!”

In the statement from Bounce, Fouse talked about working with this iconic trio of actors and having the opportunity to represent Black women in the media.

“The opportunity to do ‘Act Your Age’ with Kym, Tisha and Yvette on Bounce, a network that has made me feel so comfortable being my authentic self, means the world to me,” said Fouse. “We’ve built a world where the stories of Black women in the prime of their lives can be both funny and heartfelt; a world where individually they shine but they also show support for one another. ‘Act Your Age’ is a celebration of the Black women who have loved, raised, befriended, and held me up through the years and it honors and salutes the ones who have inspired me.”

“Act Your Age” marks the newest original program series for Bounce TV, joining “Johnson” and “Finding Happy.”

David Hudson, vice president of original programming for Scripps Networks, which owns Bounce TV, said working with MGM Television and Fouse looks to be a winning combination for the network as it continues to grow its original programming offerings.

“Partnering with MGM Television, working with top showrunner Alyson Fouse, and attracting immensely popular and talented actors Kym Whitley, Tisha Campbell and Yvette Nicole Brown are game-changing and huge steps forward for Bounce originals,” Hudson said in the statement.

Bounce TV is available to 98% of U.S. television homes free and over the air with a digital antenna, but it’s also available on cable, on Dish channel 359, and DirecTV channel 82, as well as streaming on Roku, Apple TV, Pluto TV, and via the Bounce app or at BounceTV.com.
